When asked by Buzz to write a profile of Marjorie Wallace CBE, Countess Skarbek, my friend and well-known Highgate resident since 1981, I was delighted. For I have been a fan since hearing her radio interview campaigning for the mentally ill in the 1980s.
Having created a day centre for mentally ill people in Birmingham in 1980, I was aware of disastrous consequences resulting from mental asylums being closed and replaced by 'care in the community.'
