A bitter night on Kingsway, a stone's throw from London's theatreland. Each doorway is occupied by recumbent figures: some, tucked in sleeping bags, look almost cosy; others in woollen hats and charity shop coats shiver on damp thresholds, warming themselves from cans of strong ale.
